Our "Waste to product" process

Designing with Waste: Elevating the Unseen

At Ydemaker, we're passionate about creating innovative solutions that not only reduce waste but also celebrating its potential. We believe that waste is a valuable resource, waiting to be transformed into something remarkable.

In this article, we'll explore our approach to working with waste and how we transformit into sustainable, beautiful, and functional products.

The Challenges of Sustainable Design

When working with waste, we face the lack of standardization of sustainable materials. These materials often struggle to meet the norms and standards of industrial manufacturing, making it difficult to create products that are both sustainable and competitive. Is irregularity and non-uniform or repetable defect a problem? For us no, it is part of the material's beauty, it tells and story and most important, we need to change the definition of what is aesthetically pleasant if we want to design sustainable productos and materials for real.

OurApproach to Sustainable Design

To overcome all the challenges, we follow a rigorous process that involves understanding the waste, transforming it into something beautiful, and designing a remarkable product without hiding its origin. Our steps are:

  1. Understand the Waste: We delve into the origin of the waste (textile, food industry, construction, etc) exploring how it was created and what makes it unique. This helps us identify its potential and opportunities for transformation.
  2. Transform and Elevate: We work to transform the waste into something beautiful, using creative problem-solving and innovative thinking. This might involve cleaning, processing, or combining the waste with other materials to create something new and exciting.
  3. Design with Purpose: With the transformed waste in hand, we craft a product that is not only sustainable but also functional, durable, and repairable. We consider the entire lifecycle of the product, from production to end-of-life, to ensure that it can be recycled or reused. We strive to create products that are beautiful, functional, and inspiring, without hiding their origin as a waste.

The Power of Sustainable Design

By working with waste and elevating it to create something remarkable, we're not only reducing waste but also promoting a more circular economy. Our approach encourages creativity, innovation, and collaboration, and it has the potential to transform industries and communities. We're committed to designing with waste, and we're excited to share our expertise and passion with clients who share our vision for a more sustainable future. One example of this vision is the "Circular" table we worked on with Tattoo Contract and Wim studio.

A Circular Solution

Once the sustainable material was validated and ready to be launched, we crafted and designed a product that showcased the beauty of the material while also demonstrating its potential for real-life applications. The result was a stunning table that not only reduced waste but also promoted a more sustainable future.
